Origin: Apoballis – alternatively called homalomena or purple sword is a genus of plants in the Araceae. It is native to Southeast Asia, primarily the Island of Sumatra in Indonesia.
Foliage: usually Dark green foliage splashed with silver-grey markings and purple-tinged undersides, ribs, and stems. Flowers similar to most araceae, a spadix wrapped in a spathe.
Size: upwards of 4’×4’ mature specimen size.
Problems: Leaf drop, discoloration and tip browning due to cool temperature, low humidity, or lack of sunlight or fertilizer buildup. Prone to root rot – keep soil structure loose and we’ll draining. Needs high light levels but is very prone to sunburn.
